Riwayat Presents Lifestyle Canada: Fashion Runway Photography

One of my latest projects involved being a part of the official media crew for Riwayat London’s Lifestyle Canada Fashion Show as a runway photographer alongside Kit Chan and a team of talented media producers.
Riwayat’s Lifestyle London is Europe’s largest Asian fashion and wedding show, now hosting international showcase opportunities in Toronto, Canada. Riwayat means ‘tradition’, and this fashion company draws on ancient Asian culture to create some of the world’s most innovative and experimental designs to showcase them across the world.
Lifestyle Canada was hosted in celebration of Pakistan’s 75 years of independence and Pakistan-Canada diplomatic relations.
Pakistan and Canada share over 60 years of development cooperation, dating back to Pakistan establishing their independence in 1947. “Canada pursues a broad range of interests in its bilateral relations with Pakistan, including people-to-people links, governance and democracy, human rights, climate change, development assistance, regional security and defence, transnational crime, and trade and investment.”1
With all the injustice and cynicism that blanket the world, it’s important we make the effort to celebrate art and culture across our borders and through our differences.
Being my first runway photoshoot, I didn’t know what to expect when photographing designer fashion and international models. It is an incredibly hard-working environment where perfectionism is a top priority, yet this is not done without the thrill and adrenaline of live performance. I’ve grown such an appreciation for Middle Eastern and Asian fashion with its bold colours, intricate designs, and breathtaking beauty.
After all my photoshoots, I get to relive the moments during postproduction. Going through 5000+ photos and videos from backstage and the runway was inspiring. Once the official photos were released, my work was delivered to an international audience, elevating my interest in fashion and my passion to take on more work through Marina Black Media.
It is surreal to be valued and commissioned for my perspective as a photographer. I take great pride in being able to transform moments into art and am honoured to have done this in such a unique environment.
