From a small town in southern Ontario, at 21 years old, I’m embarking on my freelance journey as a writer and photographer. I use my art to communicate different perspectives and express myself.
Welcome – I’m Marina, an aspiring journalist, writer, photographer, and creator.
I’ve recently graduated from Wilfrid Laurier University with a Bachelor of Arts in Honours Communications Studies and a minor in History. In my academic studies, I learned how to think critically and openly engage in debate about our society. I’m passionate about learning and have had amazing opportunities to explore my field through co-op and extracurriculars. While I’m not saying goodbye to academics forever, it is time for me to venture on a new path.
With Marina Black Media, I’ve decided to take the first steps in my freelancing career as a writer, editor, and photographer. Through my work in media, I strive to bring awareness to art and culture.
As you can see from my previous work, I like to write about a variety of topics, including activism, technology, personal interests, political and social debates, and art. I’m continuing this work on my own and hoping to tackle and illuminate different perspectives on various topics.
You will also notice my gallery page exhibits a range of photos and photography styles. This is an ongoing project that will correspond with my work on social media. The first part of my photography project involves expanding my portfolio; the second part is working with Canadian brands to promote their products and create content for their social media channels.
In my free time, I like to read outside in the sun with a cup of peppermint tea. I love being outdoors hiking, kayaking, and going for nature walks. When the weather is bitter, I’m online playing video games with friends or watching the latest drama TV show on Netflix. Behind the scenes, I’m on a personal journey of body-building fitness and self-care wellness. I’m also a rock n roll music lover and musician. I started music at six years old learning music theory on the piano. At ten years old, I took up the violin in honour of my late grandmother who was a semi-professional violinist. I’ve been playing violin for nearly a decade and am excited to debut my talent with my graduation present, an electric violin!
I could go on forever about my interests and passions, but I have to leave something for the blog. I hope you enjoy my website and blog, and please get in touch if you’re interested in connecting!
